Consultation has concluded
The Town has initiated amendments to the Municipal Planning Strategy (MPS) and Land Use Bylaw (LUB) to include provisions related to transitional and supportive housing by Development Agreements.
The Town's current MPS and LUB do not contain provisions related to transitional and supportive housing. Uses such as this have been permitted under "institutional uses incorporated under the Societies Act" in Institutional zones.
The proposed amendments will allow transitional and supportive housing projects by Development Agreement in residential designation areas or the Downtown Commercial Zone, and as of a right in the Institutional Zone.
Juniper House has also applied for a Development Agreement for a new facility. These amendments are necessary to proceed with a new transitional and second stage housing facility as proposed by Juniper House.
How will this affect me?
These amendments recognize the need for greater housing choices and provide more options for non-market housing options. The Town of Yarmouth has a high number of households in core housing need compared to the rest of the province. Enabling more housing choices by policy is a key solution to addressing housing challenges.
