Housing Division of the Department of Growth and Development

The Housing Division of the Department of Growth and Development offers programs to help low- and modest- income Nova Scotians pay their rent as well as maintain and adapt their homes. Other programs encourage and fund the development of new affordable housing stock as well as helping community housing organizations acquire and maintain affordable community housing.



The Nova Scotia Non-Profit Housing Association

The Nova Scotia Non-Profit Housing Association is a non-profit, membership-based organization that supports the mobilization, empowerment, growth, and sustainability of Nova Scotia’s non-profit housing providers and the informal housing groups, networks, and coalitions that support their work.



Efficiency Nova Scotia

Efficiency Nova Scotia is Canada’s first electricity efficiency utility, offering advice, technical assistance, and financial incentives to help Nova Scotian households and businesses reduce their energy costs. To date, our work has achieved over $4.8 billion in lifetime energy savings, including over $500 million for low-income homeowners and renters.


HomeShare: Bridging seniors and students through intergenerational housing (NSCC Applied Research)

A new housing opportunity for property owners and seniors

Would you consider opening your home to a student in exchange for companionship, help around the house or shared expenses? NSCC is exploring a new intergenerational housing program called HomeShare that aims to match seniors with post-secondary students in safe, affordable shared living arrangements. For more details, please see the PDF document called "Intergenerational Housing" in the documents section to the right of this page.


SHYFT Youth Services SHYFT Youth Services provides vital support to youth aged 16-24 in Yarmouth, although youth come from many parts the province. SHYFT offers safe shelter, outreach, and housing services. Our residential program includes short-term housing for youth in crisis, providing a stable and supportive environment. Through our outreach services, SHYFT connects with youth in the community, offering guidance, advocacy, and access to basic needs such as food, clothing, and mental health support. Our housing services differ as they are available to anyone aged 16 and over. The Housing Navigator helps people find and transition to independent living through support with life skills, offering referrals to other agencies, tenancy education, and securing long-term housing. SHYFT is dedicated to empowering youth and helping them build brighter, safer futures.
