An important update from Mayor Pam Mood

Hello all! I wanted to provide a quick update on a recent planning application that many of you have expressed a great deal of interest and concern over. An application was submitted to our planning office for a development agreement to allow for the property at 8 James Street to be used as a halfway house. A public participation meeting had been scheduled as a first step for our Planning Advisory Committee to review the application, and to hear feedback from the community, but was cancelled while our CAO sought a legal opinion on the matter. Today, our CAO notified me that, on the basis of the legal opinion received, neither the application for a Development Agreement for 8 James Street, nor any other applications for Development under the current definition of “Transitional and Supportive Housing”, can proceed at this time.

Thank you to everyone for the calls, emails, and written letters expressing your views on the matter.
Respectfully,
