Subdivision By-Law

The Town’s Subdivision By-Law was prepared in 2005 and has not been reviewed since then. In the last fourteen years the Town’s context and Council’s goals for development have changed. The Planning Department feels it is now time to review this document in order to ensure that the By-law adequately regulates the vision of the Town’s Municipal Planning Strategy. It’s hoped that a review of the Subdivision By-law will help to encourage new housing development in the Town. The Town's Subdivision By-Law can be found in the documents library.

The Municipality of the District of Yarmouth (MoDY) is also initiating a review of their subdivision by-law. Their program and approach will be discussed at the meeting of their Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) on March 19th . The current Subdivision By-Law is available on the MODY webpage and in the documents library. For further information please contact Roger Devine, Director of Development & Inspection or Maurice Lloyd at AtlanPLAN Ltd.

As both Municipalities are initiating a By-Law Review, the Town and MODY have teamed up to consult developers, surveyors and the business community to identify concerns with the current subdivision process and to see if there is any opportunity to collaborate on the two municipalities approach subdivision.

If you feel you can offer valuable feedback on this project, please send an e-mail to Comms@townofyarmouth.ca and request to be added to this private forum.

Hard copies of the By-laws can be requested at the Town of Yarmouth Planning Deparment or from the MODY Development and Inspection Office.
