Brown Street Parking Lot Upgrades/EV Charging Installations

Expanding Nova Scotia’s Fast Charging Network
Nova Scotia Power, in partnership with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and the Nova Scotia Department of Energy, is expanding the province’s fast-charging network to make EV travel more convenient, reliable, and accessible. Fifteen (15) new Level 3 DC fast-charging locations will open along major highways and in rural communities, helping EV drivers travel with confidence across the province.
Yarmouth has been selected as one of 15 locations. The stations will be installed in the Brown Street parking lot, with the project kicking off the week of May 12th.
Disruptions and Closures Expected
The installation project is expected to take approximately 4-6 weeks. During that time, the public can expect the lot to be partially closed, in particular, at the Hawthorne Street entry/exit. Also, there will be six spaces fenced off during this time, which will become four EV Charging spaces. Also, for 2-3 days the sidewalk on Hawthorne will be blocked off.
New parking spaces are being proposed to maintain as much parking capacity as possible, besides adding EV fast charging spaces.
